Hello everyone, we are Baphumelele Children's Home, the largest orphanage in Khayelitsha, a township in Cape Town, South Africa. We are home to 115 orphans who no longer have parents or come from difficult backgrounds. Some were abandoned or lived on the streets, but here in Baphumelele, they have found a safe haven.
The children's home was founded by Rosie Mashale, Mama Rosie, an incredible woman who began caring for children without homes as early as 1989. Even former South African President Nelson Mandela visited Baphumelele in 1997, as he was aware of its importance.
Although the orphanage may be a safe haven, we lack many resources and face a critical need for financial support to provide our children with external opportunities.
Through your donation, you can help by having an impact on at least one child's life. We will use your donation to fund educational, creative, and exploratory events for the children at Baphumelele, which include:
- a trip to the Zeitz Museum's Holiday Program
- an excursion to the Bertha Movie House
- a visit to Two Oceans Aquarium
- art supplies for Art Therapy
Help us to give the children the opportunity to explore their creativity, expand their knowledge, and experience the world beyond the walls of the orphanage!
