Urgent Funds Needed to Secure Elder Care
Spende geschützt
Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and my once active, 76 year old stepfather Tony is now in a skilled nursing facility following a series of strokes after a quadruple bypass in January. The facility is trying to discharge him, but he has no safe place to go without the assistance of Medicaid. You see, Medicare will pay 100% for acute rehab/skilled nursing for up to 20 days. On day 21, the skilled nursing facility deemed him able to be discharged. Mom is petite and not able to physically assist him in his current weakened state of health, provide any physical therapy nor safely manage his cognitive limitations. We are trying to raise emergency funds to help pay for a Medicaid consulting firm who is assisting with the Medicaid process.
I tried to initiate the spider web of the Medicaid process myself, but without a support system to help with the myriad of paperwork and appointments, the confusing rules and regulations, and ensuring mom and Tony are protected and left with enough money to live on, I soon became overwhelmed. One missed deadline could set back eligibility for weeks; one missed asset could cost them their home. As their sole caretaker, living over an hour away, I clock a lot of hours driving back and forth for doctor appointments, middle of the night emergencies, and anything else they need. With my work and travel schedule, this is not a dice I’m in a position to roll.
His granddaughter Emily started this GoFundMe and has been an amazing sounding board, his brother Joe has been persistently raising as much as he can as well as selling some possessions, and I have paid the 50% deposit with my savings.
As Tony and my mom do not have the financial resources to pay for private outpatient therapy or in-home nursing care, home is not a safe place for him to be and he cannot be discharged in his current state, and Each day they are racking up charges at the facility that will likely bankrupt them. Medicaid will allow Tony the resources he needs to be able to come home – and that’s all my parents want – for Tony to come home.
I can’t express how grateful we would be for your support. No matter the amount, every dollar gets us closer to our goal. Every dollar gets Tony closer to coming home. They are each other’s love and life and miss each other so much. Won’t you please help us get him home where he belongs?
Thank you ❤️
