Help Andrey Liubetski and his family

Dear friends and anybody who is not indifferent to what is happening in Belarus. My name is Natallia Liubetskaya. I want to start a Gofundme to support my brother and his family who have been broken up by a government in Belarus that will crush their own citizens in order to maintain their grip on power.

My older brother, Andrey Liubetski, is a pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Belarus. He has worked in a children’s hospital for many years performing complex surgeries and treatments for kids. However, he is also someone who believes that Belarussians should have the same fundamental freedoms and human rights that we in other parts of the world take for granted. The government took away his job for speaking out against the violations of basic human rights and systematic abuse of power in Belarus. He participated in peaceful marches against Lukashenko’s dictatorship and his fraudulent elections held in August of 2020 in Minsk. During another peaceful march in October 2020 he was detained and was beaten and tortured by police over two days in their custody.

But he refused to be intimidated and silenced. So, the government decided to try a different and dirtier tactic: going after his family.

In March of 2021 Natasha, his wife, didn't come home one day. For three days, no one knew where she was and what had happened to her. Over the hours of those three days Andrey and her family were tormented privately by fears of what might have happened to her and yet had to put on a brave face for the sake of their four kids. The police claimed they knew nothing of her whereabouts and were uninterested in doing anything.

When Natasha was released, she was threatened to be charged with treason and that she would be imprisoned from 7 to 15 years.

In a heart breaking decision, Natasha and Andrey decided that for the sake of their family, Natasha and the children needed to flee their own country. But, Andrey would stay in Belarus for now.

My brother isn't asking for financial support for himself or his cause, though he would ask for your voices against tyranny in Belarus. What Andrey is asking for is your financial help for his family who now all live in one of European countries.

It isn't easy for my brother to ask others for help - he has always worked hard to support himself and his family. But the government of Belarus is not as honourable, their willingness to target a family in order to control someone who questions and challenges them has created this situation where he is asking for your help for his family.
