My best friend, Allison Bigelow, is struggling with a cataclysmic collision of circumstances. After decades spent devoting her life to caring for others, Allison needs us to step up and show just how much we care for her.
On September 3rd, Allison made a desperate plea for help on social media. She writes, “Can I just scream for a moment? My car's engine is destroyed, my head gasket just blew. I can't afford this. I was already beyond my breaking point because I can't afford to fix my broken hearing aids or get dental work done. My insurance does not pay for those things, although they affect my quality of life. I have no ability to chew my food, and that affects my digestion. My granddaughter, tired of repeating herself, just says, 'Oh, never mind, Grandma.'”
Let’s come together to help Allison get back on the road, listening to her favorite shows on NPR, and eating the healthy raw foods she has come to enjoy in recent years! Any donation, small or large, will go a long way toward helping Allison overcome these unexpected financial expenses.
Here are some estimated costs for Allison to fix her 2020 Nissan Altima, which she recently paid off, along with obtaining badly needed dental care and repairing her hearing aids:
- Used, Rebuilt Engine: $1,786.83
- Other Necessary Parts (water pump, spark plugs, filters, hoses, etc.): $1,236.67
- Mechanic/Labor: $2,396.14
- Sales Tax: $504.03
- Dental Care: $4,000
- Hearing Aid Repair: TBD
Allison simply can’t afford to purchase a new vehicle at this time, and given her car’s age, mileage, and overall condition (aside from the engine), mechanics are recommending replacement of the engine with a used, rebuilt option. With regard to Allison’s dental care, the longer it gets put off, the worse shape she’ll be in. We have a call into Allison’s hearing aid provider now to see if there are repair or replacement options that are not cost-prohibitive. We’ll be sure to update the fundraising goal on this page once we know the actual costs.
Once again, every little bit helps. If you’re not in a position to give today, please consider sharing this page with your network. You never know who might be moved to make a meaningful contribution. Any and all assistance is welcome!
