Help Aleu Recover from Her Medical Crisis

This is Miss Aleu. She had a rough start to life but has been the best family member and friend anyone could ask for.

Recently (6/05/2025), she unexpectedly suffered from a gastric torsion (GDV). Thankfully, the medical team was able to untwist her stomach and greenlit her for a gastropexy the following morning. During her gastropexy, the surgeon and his team had to untwist her stomach a second time, which was undetected prior to surgery. The twist had occurred despite having a nasal tube to remove excess gas from her stomach. Aleu also had her spleen removed due to irreparable damage and tissue death. While in surgery, the medical team noted extreme inflammation in Aleu's urinary and digestive tract, and biopsies were taken.

The original surgeries for the gastric lavage and gastropexy were quoted for a potential maximum of $8,000. However, due to the unexpected second twist of her stomach, spleen removal, and biopsies, the total cost ended up being a little over $10,000 at the time of discharge.

As of now, Miss Aleu is at home resting and is being slowly nursed back to the fullest health we can achieve while anxiously awaiting the results of the biopsies. However, she is still not out of the woods as she could have to go back to the ER vet at any time if any complications from suture rupture to not being able to use the bathroom occur. There still might be a long road to recovery for Aleu depending.

Aleu and her family would greatly appreciate any help, and anything more that would not be used for the medical expenses from Aleu's surgeries would be donated to local no-kill shelters.

Update (6/11/2025)

A biopsy result came in with some not so great news. Miss Aleu has a breed specific lupus: Mucocutaneous Lupus Erythematosus. This form of lupus attacks any mucous related areas of the body. The next step is seeing a veterinary dermatologist.
