As some friends and locals may know downtown lynchburg has taken a heavy hit leaving a lot of businesses crippled and some shut down for good. Nayef Al Shubaki (Owner & Head Chef) of Al Ryan has felt these brutal waves hit head on.
From losing his restaurant "My Favourite Things" in 2012 due to flooding and having a smoke issue coming into the building from next door in his current restaurant, Al Ryan, a load of issues began to sprinkle in. Since September of last year there has been major construction downtown leaving little to no desire for people to come and weave through a headache of traffic cones and road blocks.
In addition to the construction, on February 10, 2020 Nayef suffered a tragic fall breaking both his Femur and Wrist. This fall left Nayef with a closed restaurant and a stack of medical bills bringing his situation from struggling to submerged. After a long painful recovery at rehab Nayef learned how to walk again but life for him has never been the same.
As Nayef has been trying tirelessly to bring his restaurant back up to the surface the pandemic COVID-19 suddenly crashed in putting business in a very tight and tough squeeze. With little to no support in these times we are turning to the people for support to keep the restaurant afloat and to help Nayef in these very difficult times.
Here is what the funds will be going to:
- Replacing and fixing broken equipment (Stove, Oven, Grill, Freezer, and Refrigerator)
- Medical Bills
- Rent
- Installing Exhaust Unit (To draw out smoke coming from next door)
