I met Aisha in the Dominican Republic when she was three years old. We played together at the beach, and after my swims she would run into my arms laughing—open, joyful, and full of life. I fell in love with her immediately. Today, Aisha is ten years old. She is bright, beautiful, and deeply ambitious. She dreams of continuing her English lessons, practicing karate, and building a future filled with possibilities.

Earlier this year, Aisha’s mother tragically passed away after an illness. Since then, Aisha’s life has been marked by instability and loss. She briefly lived with relatives in an overcrowded home where food was scarce, and many of her belongings were lost or destroyed. In a country where resources are limited and help is rare, moments like this can change the course of a child’s life. Aisha is now being cared for by an Italian woman who was a close friend of her mother and had already been helping to care for Aisha during her illness. Overnight, she became Aisha’s guardian. Due to this responsibility, she can no longer travel to Italy for seasonal work, which makes her finances extremely difficult.

Aisha attends public school, which is only half a day. While private school is no longer possible, we are hoping to give her something essential: after-school activities—a safe, enriching place where she can continue learning, growing, and simply being a child. I am helping in every way I can, but I can’t do this alone. So many children need support, but if we can make a small difference in Aisha’s life, it would mean everything—especially this Christmas.
