From Rapid Response to Reliable Support: Ensuring No Senior Goes Hungry

Across our 92 independent and assisted living communities, AHEPA Senior Living provides safe, affordable housing for thousands of older adults. More than half of our residents—2,500 seniors—receive some form of food assistance.

When the recent federal shutdown disrupted nutrition programs, our donors responded immediately. Thanks to their swift generosity, we raised $100,000--including from our gofundme page--in rapid-response support. But even now, with the government reopened and SNAP benefits resuming, many older adults still face lingering uncertainty accessing the food programs they rely on every day.

SNAP is navigating administrative backlogs and proposed program changes. Meanwhile, nonprofit meal providers—such as Meals on Wheels and congregate meals funded by the Older Americans Act (OAA)—remain severely underfunded. Many communities are facing long waitlists, limited capacity, and fewer resources than ever before.
