Help a War-Torn Refugee Family Start a New Life

As students of Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, we have launched a new campaign within the Newcomer Health Project that aims to spread awareness about the horrors of war and sponsor a war-torn family to relocate to Canada in pursuit of a safe and peaceful life.
Ninwe’s Story:
Ninwe, her husband, and their two kids, lived a quiet life in the village of Tal Maghas, Syria, until ISIS invaded in 2014. Her husband was captured by ISIS shortly after, and Ninwe was left solely responsible for her two children: Ashur, 9, and Arshel, 3. Ninwe and her children escaped to Lebanon in 2015, with the hope of starting a new life. Due to her refugee status, however, she could not legally work and has struggled to provide for her family.
For the past 7 years, Ninwe’s family has known nothing but hardship and desperation. They have survived by working odd jobs and with the help of humanitarian donations. Over the past few years, as the situation in Lebanon worsens, the aid that was initially being offered to her has reduced significantly.
Our Cause:
Newcomer Health Project is collaborating with North Park Community Church to help bring Ninwe and her family to Canada where they can live a more peaceful and stable life. Our immediate goal is to raise $33,000 which is just above the required amount to sponsor a family of three. Apart from the GoFundMe cut, every single penny will go towards helping Ninwe’s family.
