I am trying to upgrade my discharge from the Navy from General to Honorable. I feel that my General Discharge was unjust because the Navy did not do their due diligence when they separated me for misconduct. I never received any psychological treatment or screening before I was discharged. It was not until a decade later that a VA doctor diagnosed me with Asperger's disorder. Asperger's disorder is a form of high-functioning autism. It is not a condition that you develop over time; you are born with it and it never goes away. It is well known in medical circles that people with Asperger's disorder disproportionately abuse alcohol and drugs to self-medicate in order to deal with the tremendous anxiety they deal with on a daily basis.
I will use your donations to hire an attorney who will represent me before the Navy Discharge Review Board. I already gathered all my evidence and submitted the application myself. I have been told by several knowledgeable people that my odds of successfully obtaining a discharge upgrade without an attorney are astronomically low. I'm only asking for what I need to pay the attorney.
An Honorable Discharge would change my life in ways that I cannot begin to describe. Employment opportunities that were only a dream for me before would now become a reality. I can get a much better job so that I can pay off my debt and one day qualify for a mortgage.

I have contacted a law firm that specializes in military law and they have agreed to represent me, but they cannot begin working on my case until I pay the retainer. Without your help, I will not be able to hire this firm. My hearing with the board is in 12 to 18 months; so, I have some time.
