My name is Salem (they/them) and I'm currently unemployed, living with my family in Discovery Bay, Jamaica. In March of this year, I left Atlanta due to my mental health issues with PTSD, BPD and schizophrenia. I planned on moving to Jamaica and staying with my family until May/June, where then my mom and my siblings were to move to Orlando, FL and I would follow along to start over in Florida. However, my mom has been furloughed due to Covid-19 worsening and is unable to move to Orlando until god knows when. This has left me without a job and money of my own since I've been relying on my parents and was only planning to stay with them to get back on my feet.
The couple of months I've lived back with my family, I realized my other family that I need to be around is back in Atlanta. While staying with blood family has been a time for decompressing, I can't stay here long due to my family being transphobic, homophobic and not accepting of non-Christian spiritual beliefs. I feel it is best for my mental safety and environment to move back with friends and eventually apply to disability and seek professional help. On top of the current events of the George Floyd protests, I want to be back with my community, ensuring that the ones I love are safe and taken care of now and in the upcoming weeks. I need to be back to a place where I'm doing what I feel I'm best at which is organizing and getting involved with the community there to help heal and uplift one another.
Moving with Covid-19 is hard but flights are beginning to open up here in Jamaica. I'm planning to move early July and am asking for $3000 to cover:
-Rent and down payment on a house that me and my friends plan on moving into.
-Electricity, internet, gas, water, etc
-Movers (for the things I have in storage)
-Plane ticket
-Transportation for the first month
-Groceries for the first month
-Second months rent and bills to ensure I am still able to live in our new home since job hunting has become even more difficult than before.
