Heather's campaign for Race on the Agenda

Tax deductible
I will be running / walking 5k every day of January 2021 to raise money for Race on the Agenda. While I am not affected by racism myself, I have seen how it affects those very close to me and many people around the world and it is unacceptable that they are discriminated against purely based on the colour of their skin.

"It’s starkly evident that major ethnic and racial inequalities persist  in employment, housing and the justice system. Black and Muslim minorities have twice the unemployment rate of their white British peers and are twice as likely to live in overcrowded housing. They are also much more likely to be stopped and searched by the police. We could also add to the list the alarming ethnic differences in deaths from COVID-19." (source - theconversation.com)

My aim is to raise £250 by the end of January for ROTA. ROTA is a social policy research organisation that focuses on issues impacting on black, asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities. their policy priorities are mental health, education and criminal justice. As a BAME-led organisation, all ROTA’s work is based on the principle that those with direct experience of inequality should be central to solutions to address it. Their work is actively informed by the lived experiences of BAME communities and their organisations.

White people have a duty to take a stand against racism, and I actively encourage everyone to join us on the fight to end racism.

If you are unable to donate but still want to help, here are a few things you can do:

LISTEN
- when people of colour tell personal stories about their own experience of injustice
- when BAME tell you something is racist, it is not your place to disagree with them
- when you make a mistake, be open to feedback and accept criticism as an opportunity for self-growth, understanding, and doing better in the future

EDUCATE YOURSELF
- it is not the job of BAME to educate you on these subjects, do your research, there is an abundance of resources out there whether it's books, videos, webinars, blogs, etc

UNDERSTAND YOUR PRIVILEGE
- as a white person, you have a privilege that is not available to people of colour.  You may have additional privilege based on other aspects of your identity and/or the position you hold

SHARE
- stories
- facts
- resources
- and this fundraiser!

I will be documenting my progress on my Instagram & TikTok
