To my family, friends, and to those who's path I have not yet crossed...
My name is, Heather LeBoeuf, and I am writing this letter because I have been given an amazing opportunity, a mission. I have been asked to be a part of a team called "Project Serve Ministry". August 2-11, we will travel to St. Ann, Jamaica and host a 9-day sports camp. There will be anywhere from 200-500 campers from local churches in the area. Ages will range from 9-21. This is a fabulous opportunity to touch the lives of our worlds next generation and I need your help! We will have a fun week full of basketball, volleyball, arts and crafts, games and intentional relationships. At the heart of the fun, the core of this mission, is to spread God's love. A wise man once said "Preach the gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words:" Our actions and interactions with these campers will allow us to shine God's light that will hopefully generate a spark that will spread within each of them.
I could go on and on about the excitement I have for this mission trip. Growing up an athlete, I know firsthand sports are an amazing way to start building lifelong positive relationships. They also build character, trust and communication. Sports aren't always just about winning. They are about coming together unselfishly as a team, as one, in order to play to your ultimate capability. They are built on focus, determination, self-discipline and commitment. They teach you to obtain the ability to overcome fear of the unknown, to prepare for all adversity and to adapt and react confidently to sudden changes. Most importantly, sports teach you how to be free and have fun with an awareness and respect to those that surround you. We learn these things individually, as well as a team. These very same values go hand in hand with living a Christian lifestyle. They teach you the core fundamentals for living life in itself.
I also know firsthand the amazing feeling of freedom art supplies me. Drawing, painting, music, dancing, writing, etc. all allow us to express the beauty of God's pure love. It allows others to capture a glimpse of our hearts. It also helps reclaim order in our cluttered, chaotic lives. Revealing our spirit and healing our soul, art connects us. Its an expression of self, our self that is miraculously unique from anyone else breathing life. It is pure, and whole.
Our camp verse is Matthew 5:8: "The pure in heart will see God." I believe we can find a sense of purity by being active, building positive relationships (with Christ especially), and learning to freely express ourselves. We as a team have an abundance of love to offer these campers. We will learn from them and they will learn from us. "We will go where He says go and do what He says do." -2 Corinthians 4:5. We will shape clean, pure, loving relationships that will hopefully and ultimately reveal that our relationship with God goes beyond surface level. To be able to reach out and to witness Christ's spirit come alive and restored on this trip will be an amazing journey in itself. I cannot wait.
If possible, I will -with full gratitude- receive any gifts you have to offer. The trip in full will cost $1500 per person. In addition, as a team, we are trying to raise about another $500 each in order to support 2 Jamaican campers to attend. Their cost for camp is $210. Any excess will go towards the mission such as sports equipment, crafts, or even giving another team member or camper an opportunity to be included. EVERY and ANY little bit can help!!! If you are unable to financially support us at this time, I will ask for your prayers!
