Hearing Aids for Amanda’s Birthday

Hi, my name is Maegan and me and my family are raising money for my sister to get hearing aids.

Amanda was born premature at 26 weeks which resulted in a hearing loss as her ears didn’t get enough time to develop. Which in time resulting in multiple ear infections as Amanda grew up causing so much pain, bleeding and an erupted ear drums. She only now has 25% of her hearing and has been getting worse over the years.

After Amanda had her baby, Annabell she applied for maternity leave and was told that she was not eligible for maternity leave due to the fact that she was off work on medical leave a few months prior to Annabelle’s birth. In addition, her husband had to start a new job with a pay cut. They are living only on one income that goes toward there bills resulting in no extra money for her aids. Insurance won’t cover the cost of hearing aids which is why we created this page in hopes that maybe if we come together we could gather even a little bit of money to help her.

Growing up it wasn’t easy for her… in school She had to have a speaker on her desk at school and teacher wore a microphone so she could hear but then Didn’t want to anymore cause kids would make fun of her and she was bullied for it. It was hard for her to learn cause she missed half the content but her perseverance pushed her through. Writing this out breaks my heart (being a mom myself, can’t imagine ever my child going through it) thinking back when all Amanda ever wanted was to be included and do everything me and our others sister did but her disabilities really set her back. She also has cerebral palasy, and the doctors told her would never be able to ride a bike.. she proved them wrong and guess what… she can ride a bike! She is so willing and determined to get through any obstcale which is I think how she has managed to get by all these years without hearing aids. She is such a fighter! Now as a mom, imagine trying to keep up with the needs of your kids while hardly being able to hear them. Her and her family have learnt to cope but it’s at the point where Amanda prefers not to even celebrate her birthday with her family (those of you who know her, know how MUCH she loves family!) because of her hearing loss. Below is a little snip of an example of what she hears vs someone with out a loss. What a hearing loss sounds like. The first part is with the loss and the second part is repeated with hearing aids.

If anyone knows Amanda, they know her amazingly kind, soft hearted, extremely selfless personality. Time and time again Amanda will drop anything just to help and has been there for me more times than I can count! I set up this page in hopes that we could repay the kindness and help her get the hearing aids she needs, not only for her but for her husband and kids as well. Even if it’s $1, any bit helps.
