Black Durham HaytiReborn Reparative Justice Fight

Donation protected
60 years ago, the Black community in Durham, North Carolina was destroyed through urban renewal, like many others across the United States.  Over 4,000 Black homes and 500 Black businesses across 200 acres of Black owned property in Durham's Black  Hayti community were destroyed in the process, stripping away generations of potential wealth and opportunity.

Though many of the children and families of those years have been lost to time, many others remain.  Today, as gentrification threatens and takes away more and more land in historic Black Durham, community members are struggling to fight back.  Ancestors of those who lost their land, and were forced away or into public housing, are now seeking to reclaim some of those lands to support the uplifting of current and future generations - and to use such strategy to rid the community of lack of opportunity and hope, and the associated deadly gun violence that accompanies it.

But this poor Black community is terribly under resourced as they fight the Public and Private powers that be over land that has become increasingly valuable.  They are attempting to keep it from being sold off forever to outside forces who care little about the future of Durham's historic Black community or its proud legacy.   Support Hayti Reborn.
