The Helping Harry Trust - Harry’s Pals
At The Helping Harry Trust we’re extremely aware of how exhausting it can be to be a parent of a critically ill or disabled child ... both mentally and physically.
We’re aiming to raise some funds to offer respite care to allow parents to have a much needed break, access to bespoke counseling services and a befriending system.
It shouldn’t be underestimated just how much difference time out makes - it enables parents to rest, spend time with their partners and/ or other children that they may have been missing out on and just take stock.
We also know first hand how much therapy/counseling can help - but we want to make sure it’s done right and will work with counselors and therapist to cater the programme to suit the families individual needs. Which can help the family to cope with whatever is thrown at them and also deal with the huge emotional impact of their new reality.
Lastly but by all means not least, we intend to set up a buddy up system to put parents new to having a critically ill or severely disabled child in touch with a parent a little further down the line who will mentor and befriend them during what can be a very isolating time.
