Hej!

Hi!
My name is Joanna Daxell Vivien. I live deep in the forests of Halland in Sweden. I came here three years ago to start a café and bed & breakfast, far away from all the hustle and bustle. Most of my guests have been foreigners appreciating the peace and quiet here. I have a little store where I have sold my crafts and photo prints. Before coming here, my family had a country hotel in Wales, where I was chef and had a chocolatier business on the side. I have grown up in the hospitality trade. I’ve lived through quite a few periods of difficulty due to recessions, weather other events, beyond anybody’s control. This pandemic we are currently dealing with is most likely the worst of trials most of us have ever experienced.

I have had to close my business and because I live on the premises with my 86 year old mother, I have chosen to self-isolate. While getting ready for this new life, I began to think about what the situation would be for the old and sick, forced to isolate in their homes. What would they do to pass time? Maybe some of them would take up a craft they have neglected for years. Others might already be crafters but will not be able to go to any craft fairs. It’s likely, that there won’t be any craft fairs for the foreseeable future.

Without craft fairs, numerous crafters, artists and others will not have market for their goods. Some have already begun to set up websites, others would not know where to begin to create an online presence for their cottage industry. Then you have the café and small restaurant owners that are struggling and desperately are looking to provide their customers with a safe place. Many of them would benefit from being able to sell their goods online –  all around Europe and the US, there are small food companies selling cakes, chocolate and other food online. This is not very common in Sweden.

There are many others that are now unable to work with their customers that would benefit from an online platform, where they could meet their customers. Unfortunately, even if many of these crafters, artists and others have an online presence, they will have a hard time market themselves.

What if there was a place online where all these groups could offer their goods and services. A place where they would also be able to meet and talk, feel less isolated, share their experiences and their skills and earn some money on the same time.

This is where my project comes in. I want to create a market place using the tribeshare.com platform. Tribeshare has kindly given me a free subscription to get my project started.

My project is called Hantverkarnas marknad (The Artisans´ Market). I have started a non for profit sole proprietorship for this purpose.

Using a community platform and the Tribeshare platform, I will create a craft fair, where customers will be able to find most of what you find at a real life craft fair and support a good cause.

I will use the funds raised, to give the chance to an out of work designer to build the site at www.hantverkarnasmarknad.se, to market the site through various channels, incl. printing T-shirts with the site’s logo and website – most of the sellers on the site, incl. myself, are in isolation but need a way to spread the news offline – friends and family will wear the t-shirts to promote the site at various locations. Legal aid will be needed for all legal matters pertaining to the site.

Sellers will be asked to pay commission when they have sales in order for the site to support itself.

I would like to get the work going as soon as possible – this will provide a distraction from everyday life not only for me but for the people that could benefit from being part of this online community – many of whom are right now just sitting and waiting for situation to end. With no end in sight for many of the people at risk, this might last quite a while. While the technical aspects of the site are created by a web designer, the most important content is provided by the community itself.

We all want to do something to help in the situation we now are in together. With the funding needed, I would be able to immerse myself in the work necessary to create, maintain and promote Hantverkarnas marknad. I belief it will be of great benefit to many people, especially groups that would be easily forgotten as they are becoming invisible due to their quarantine.
