We hope you all are healthy and staying safe.  To state the obvious: we are dealing with unprecedented and uncertain times.  With that said, we wanted to take some time to fill you in on some exciting news and ask for your help.


Last week, the State of Colorado mandated that Truman shut down temporarily, likely until at least April 30th.  Now, like most of you, our staff is sheltering in place.  At this time, there is no playbook for this situation.  Not only is the shop closed but our barbers cannot legally perform haircuts right now in any form (even house calls).  Like thousands of other small businesses, we’re struggling with the realities of a sudden and unprecedented economic crisis.  Unlike other businesses, who have been able to at least partially adapt with the aid of online resources, barbering is one of the few vocations left that truly requires in-person interaction.  Frankly, even amidst the current situation, we wouldn’t have it any other way, as this element of barbering truly builds a community. Truman has always been about maintaining that aspect of community and we are doing everything within our control to ensure this community remains and comes out of this even stronger.


With this, we wanted to share with you some exciting news that will benefit the community long-term and will greatly support our barbers during the temporary shut down.  We are proud to launch an initiative called Haircuts for Humans. The mission of Haircuts for Humans is to provide our barbering services to the homeless and less fortunate in our community, free of cost to those in need.


While we cannot begin these services until given clearance from the State of Colorado, our barbers need your support at this time.  Many of you have already asked how you can help us during the shutdown. Many of you have already purchased gift cards and we are eternally grateful for you.   All funds raised will go directly into the pockets of our barbers and will be used to ensure Truman remains fully operational, ensuring they have jobs once this crisis resolves.  In exchange for your help at this time, our barbers will donate their time once this is over to Haircuts for Humans. Truly, this is a win-win for all.


Here are some details:


-For every $100 raised, Truman will pledge five (5) haircuts for people in our community that are unable to afford haircutting services;

-If you personally donate at least $100, you will receive a limited edition “Haircuts for Humans” t-shirt, designed by local sign painter and artist Chase Brown (@_chaserbrown).  Please let us know your size upon donation, if possible.

Again, these proceeds will be used, in the short-term, to help our barbers during the temporary shutdown of our business.

Haircuts for Humans has been a concept we’ve been excited about for a while and we decided there is no better time to unveil it than now.  It is a long-term win for the community and, short-term during this crisis, with your help, it can be a vehicle that allows our barbers to survive the temporary shutdown of Truman.  Truly, we need your support. One day soon, this crazy era of social distancing and sheltering at home will be behind us. We cannot wait to have you all back in Truman when that day comes.
