Hadley’s Heart Journey

Hi, my name is Hailey and I’m fundraising for the sweet Patrick Family as they welcome their beautiful new addition to the family. Paige and Gary are two of my very best friends. I met Paige in 2019 when I started working at VIR. We instantly clicked and she went from being my boss to one of the best friends I’ve ever had. And Gary is probably about sick and tired of me coming to him for all of my car problems, but never bats an eye anytime I need help. I know they would give me the shirt off their back if I needed it and that is why I wanted to start this fundraiser for them as they venture through the next steps of little miss Hadley’s story.

Here’s a little about their journey thus far…

On Saturday January 21st 2023 Hadley Rayne’s journey began. At 6:45am Hadley was welcomed into the world by the amazing folks at Duke University where she was immediately taken into care by the PCICU team. At just 20 weeks into gestation Hadley was diagnosed with a rare heart defect known as D Transposition of the great arteries (TGA). With this defect, both main arteries carrying blood out of the heart are switched in position or “transposed”. Less than 24 hours after being welcomed Hadley underwent a balloon atrial septostomy where an opening is created between the upper chambers of the heart. At just 5 days old Hadley underwent an open heart arterial switch operation to correct the transposed arteries.

As Hadley transitions through each phase of recovery she will need weekly therapy, doctor and heart specialist visits.
