Hadley's Heart Journey

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage. Unfortunately it wasn't so easy for the Kalb family. Their story begins when Casie, Jon and Maddie heard the news that their family was growing to four! What was supposed to be an exciting time for the family, brought excitement, nerves and many unanswered questions. Casie grew very sick throughout the first trimester of pregnancy and was admitted to the hospital for the first time on January 20th. This placed her out of work from January 19th through June 1st due to health issues that affected both Casie and the baby. Throughout this time Casie was hospitalized on 8 separate occasions. Throughout this time Casie and Jon were really put to the test both physically, mentally and emotionally, however, they were eager to do whatever it took to fight for their precious baby girl. Casie was able to return to work part time in June and pushed herself to work through September 5th. Hadley Jo made her grand entrance into the world on September 7th but was soon transferred to Cardinal Glennon after failing her oxygen level tests. Doctors confirmed she had a PDA. The initial treatment they decided on was to give it time to see if it would close on its own, however this proved ineffective. Hadley had a CT scan on September 13th to look at her heart and by September 18th they had developed a plan. They confirmed the PDA was still mildly open and she had coarctation of the aorta which would need to be surgically corrected. Hadley overcame surgery on September 19th but will require follow up with cardiac doctors for the first several years of her life. Casie, Jon and Maddie have spent numerous hours in and out of hospitals and have taken countless hours off work all for the love of their sweet Hadley Jo. Now it is our turn to help them ease into their new transition to parenthood, by easing their financial burdens and eliminating the stress of leaving their workplace to welcome their sweet girl home in the near future!
