Michele DeJacimo's Medical Fund

On July 3rd, 2014 my mom was diagnosed with Acute AML Leukemia and on October 16th, 2014 at 8:20pm she passed away. Although my mother’s cancer journey was short, it was full of the highest of highs and lowest of lows. During her four month stay at the Cleveland Clinic we clung to our cell phones, doctor’s words and most importantly our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I can honestly say that our faith in the God we’ve known and served our whole lives was being tested in a 3 word diagnosis, “you have cancer”. These 3 words pressed like a 1,000 weights on our hearts and chest, making even the shortest breathes hard to complete. My mom, Michele DeJacimo, was the center of our family, our church and our world. When someone you love is sick you try to read between the blurred lines of good and bad news to find a healthy balance of hope to cling on to just to make it through each day. Many people who have a sick family member, or have lost a loved one to cancer, know the physical, emotional and financial toll that it takes on both the patient and family. We are establishing this fund in hopes of covering some medical bills that accumulated during her stay.

A little about Michele…

Our family's hearts are aching and for those that were fortunate enough to know my mom can understand why. She truly was the most caring, giving and compassionate person I've ever known. My mom was a Pastor to a small congregation in Warren, Ohio and spent her entire day meeting the needs of every person she came in contact with. She cooked dinners for new mothers and people that were sick or bed ridden. She gave money to people that struggled financially or she would find a way to bless them by purchasing clothes or groceries without them knowing it was her. She took in troubled teens and spent time counseling young girls with low self-worth because she wanted them to know the depths of God's love for them. She took in single moms like they were her own daughters and taught them how to be a good mom and that God had a plan for their lives. She was hospitable and she took in so many people that needed a roof over their head and didn’t care whether it was for a short or long season. She was a talented decorator and interior designer that used her God-given talent to bless many people at church, and also her family members, with their weddings. In summary, she was completely and utterly selfless. The only way she knew how to live was by serving others. Even while she was sick she touched so many lives-never complaining about her disease or the pain she bared. She never blamed God even when the doctors pronounced that she wouldn’t make it. When I would cry and tell her why I couldn’t understand what was happening she would comfort me with these words, “Lydia, whether I live or whether I die-I am the Lords. He has bought me with blood and I belong to him”…and she meant every word she said. Sometimes I think about our lives without her and wonder how we will go on and then I remember how she lived and I know exactly how we will continue; one day at a time in the grace of our Lord and Savior, serving others and God with our whole heart until he calls us home to spend and eternity with our beloved mom.
