Some of you may have noticed my luscious brown locks swept up into a gorgeous pony tail poking through my hat or waving in the wind as I am skiing… this glamour look is something I am very proud of and something I have been growing almost 3 years, in an effect to raise awareness and funds for those struggling with cancer.
I have finally reached 35.5cm which not only allows me to donate my hair to be made into a wig but also means I can stop stealing elastics from my girlfriend and Pantene can stop harassing me to be the face of their brand.
I’m sure you all know someone who has been affected in some way by cancer, whether it’s a family member, friend or acquaintance. Each case is unique, but the struggle is real and often leaves loved ones unsure on how to help. My small act of growing my hair is nothing compared to what these brave patients face, but I’m hoping by donating my hair I can help someone somewhere feel more confident in themselves, with a new head of hair.
I’d like to dedicate this to my little (not so little anymore) cousin, who was diagnosed and survived leukemia as a 4 year old, and to my uncle Rod who was the happiest man I had ever met in my life, a man who dedicated his life to saving others, a man who up until his last moment was providing laughter in other people’s lives. No one shone brighter.
As a tribute to these great men I will be donating my hair to a charity called “Variety” https://www.variety.org.au/wigs/ and I will be raising money for the Starlight foundation to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families. A quote I read many years ago, “Sick kids are still kids at heart”, has greatly encouraged me to join in on this mission.
I would love support from anyone! If it’s $1 or $50, anything is appreciated, even just a comment of support
