Edit: We have hit goal, but anything extra will be used to increase efforts any way possible. GoFundMe sent me a message saying I can increase our goal, but I will not do so, because I want to show how supportive our Texans are!!!!
Houston and Victoria are two cities in Texas that are being very badly affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my friends in Victoria are without electricity or running water. The City of Victoria has announced that it could be a week or more before running water and electricity is restored. Friends in Houston have been in contact with me describing the situation and sending me photos. Houston is especially grim as there is no access to get into the city at the current moment.
Our plan is to procure as many supplies as possible and make the drive from El Paso, TX into Victoria. We have a staging point planned once we get into Victoria. We will then drive around Victoria handing out supplies and assistance as needed. The following are our figures of costs to initially pull this off successfully:
16' Flatbed trailer: Borrowed from a friend
2x 275 gallon food grade water tanks: $135
10 cases of baby wipes- 160.86
Basic medical supplies: $50
One pallet drinking water: $155.36
Fuel for the truck: $375
Fuel for the generator set: $175
This comes out to about $1048 so we rounded up to $1250 to cover any unforseen expenses as well as extra supplies. This is an initial estimate, if funds continue to come in, it will allow us to stay longer and procure/distribute additional supplies from nearby cities as needed.
Please do not donate anonymously as this is a zero profit venture, and should we fail to come up with the necessarry funds to make it happen, all money will be returned to the donors. Any remaining funds left over after the effort has finished will be donated to the American Red Cross. Thank you for contributing and/or spreading the word!
