Growing Our Future: Free Gardening Kits for Youth

Hello! My name is Bridget Westrum and I am the founder of @growing our future. Growing Our Future is a community program based in Bemidji, Minnesota that supplies free seasonal gardening kits to local youth. All Youth ages 18 and under are eligible to receive a kit.
I started this program back in January of 2021 (I was a junior in high school, at the time) and gave out free “starter garden” kits that included everything from detailed planting information to seeds and soil. It was a huge success. With over 130 kits distributed, Growing Our Future brought knowledge of gardening and a broadened sense of self-sustainability into the lives of 130+ families. I was in awe. This newfound success expanded my expectations for the program and the goals for this organization.
Our goal for all upcoming kit cycles is to reach at least 200 youth from in and around Bemidji. It is so important for youth to have the opportunity to garden and be self-sustainable, because it promotes important life skills, patience, boosts Serotonin, and all-around improves mental health.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed, we are entirely youth led and donation funded. Our fundraising goal for this project is $5,000. These donations will be primarily used to purchase Various supplies for our upcoming kits, including but not limited to: soil, seed starting trays, seeds, watering, transportation, becoming a non-profit, etc. I need your help to reach this goal. You know Just as well as I do, how important it is for today’s youth to know how to be self sustainable. Gardening is a skill they will have and use for the rest of their lives. Please consider making a donation, today, to help create the next generation of gardeners. They are the future. I believe in this program, and I hope you will too.
This Go Fund Me will remain open throughout the next year or so, and be used for various batches of kits, ie, seed starting, pollinator garden, herb garden, etc!!
