Grow Kennedy Grow

Beschermde donatie
Hello, family and friends. On July 10th, 2017, Kennedy Mietla Osmond came into this world. Here is an update on what's going on, and how we got here.

Starting at the 20th-week growth ultrasound, the doctors noticed Kennedy was a little behind according to her due date. They first thought they had Kara's due date wrong, and so they waited one more month to have another growth scan. At that point, Kennedy was almost a month behind her due date with low amniotic fluid. She was just not growing as fast as she should which is called IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction). They sent Kara for some testing to see if Kennedy got an infection or had a chromosome disorder, in which all those tests came back negative. Now they were having growth scans every two weeks and non-stress tests twice a week. On June 22nd (31 weeks), the doctors decided it was best to hospitalize Kara at Tucson Medical Center, 2 hours from Safford, until they decided to deliver. She under went daily non-stress tests and doppler ultrasounds twice a week. After 12 days in the hospital, they thought it was safe for Kara to be discharged to remain in Tucson at the Ronald McDonald House. After 1 week, she went to have her daily non-stress test and growth scan when they discovered her amniotic fluid was significantly low, making it was time for Kennedy to come and meet the world. She was 33 weeks and 4 days. Kara delivered Kennedy via c-section. Kennedy weighed 2lbs, 7oz and was 13 3/8 inches long. She was immediately taken to the NICU where she was put on oxygen and given an IV and feeding tube.

Fast forward to now, she is off her oxygen and IV. They still have the feeding tube in her nose to help her eat until she is ready to start nursing or taking a bottle. Kennedy has a long road ahead of her. After losing some of her birth weight, she is slowly gaining and still has some tests to overcome. Due to her long hospital stay, her parents are going to need help with hospital bills and travel expenses. Keith will be returning to Safford soon to start the new school year, and Kara will stay in Tucson to look after Kennedy. With them only having 1 vehicle, this is going to become an issue. We would appreciate any support you could give them and lots of prayers as well.
