Grandma Jo’s Car Accident Fund

As some of you know, Grandma was in a horrific car wreck on the 13th. She was flown to Wichita for care and remains in critical but stable condition. Her injuries include a number of breaks in her ribs, a fracture of the spine, broken ankle, broken shoulder bones, skin degloving wound on her forearm, and a few more bumps and bruises. At the moment she isn’t displaying any control over her fingers. She can move her legs, feet, toes. and arms, but not her fingers. As of now she has a tracheostomy and with that and the inability to hold a pen, she can’t communicate effectively. And now even though she still seems to need ICU care, the caseworker is talking about sending us to some other facility. We are asking for help because we don’t know what kind of care we need to get Grandma Jo. Her daughter, my aunt Debi is in town from North Carolina and is staying in the hospital room with her. We don’t know if the next care facility will allow that privilege. And of course all of this comes almost two years after Jo’s daughter Lynn, my mother, spent a month in the ICU in Houston and passed after complications from open heart surgery. As you can imagine the trauma from losing mom is still fresh, there are so many regrets that we have about how she was brushed off by the medical staff in Houston, and we are doing everything we can to ensure the same mistakes aren’t made with Grandma.
