Grandfather skydives 15,000 feet for Autism.

Hi,

My name is Baljit, as many of you may be aware I am lucky enough to be the grandfather of a perfect little 3 year old boy called Isaiah. He has crazy curls, a pot belly, a smile that makes me smile and has me totally wrapped around his chubby little fingers.

Isaiah, like many children his age enjoys running around, playing with his toys, and generally having as much fun as possible. Isaiah also has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), this means he processes his environment differently from other children. He can become overwhelmed when he is over stimulated. He will often cover is eyes or ears when he hears loud noises or when in busy areas.

ASD can also be associated with difficulty in social and communication skills, repetitive behaviours like flapping hands (stimming), and adherence to routine. Isaiah is also sensory seeking, which means he loves touching different textures but really does enjoy smooth objects and surfaces.

Unfortunately, he also suffers from seizures, he has in the past fallen unconscious and stopped breathing, his mother had to act fast to resuscitate him, how she managed to keep calm and bring him back all on her own is testament to how strong a woman she is.

We knew little about ASD at the time and must admit it was difficult to come to terms with as we thought he would never be a “normal boy”. However, as time went on we realised he was not going to be less then any other child his age, he was just going to be different. He is the most amazing bundle of curls anyone could hope for and I would not want him any other way.

So, I decided to try and bring some attention to this condition and raise some money for “Ambitious about Autism” who are a brilliant charity that help so many children/families who deal with this condition on a daily basis.

I also wanted to do something that I would always remember, So here we are, I am throwing myself out of a plane at 15,000 ft strapped to some poor unsuspecting instructor (god help him). If you would like to help or like the idea of me screaming all the way to the ground, please help by donating.
