75 Year Old's First Vacation!

Introduction

I'd like to first admit my reluctance in starting this page. I also understand that it getting the attention it deserves isn't guaranteed. But through life lessons and some of my favorite quotes, I've learned that I have no reason to give up if I haven't tried every step in the world yet. If at first I don't succeed, try again. And if that doesn't work, simply try again with a better approach.


The Challenge

My goal is simple: get my grandma to Colorado. The challenge though, with her reluctance to flying, I’ll be driving back and forth from Colorado to Louisiana several times. Once you include all the expenses during our roadtrip, and then also include the expenses during her vacation—add all of that up, and you can understand why I need your help. But the great news is, Grandma has finally agreed to come for a month. That’s all that matters. The rest is up to you and I.

The Gameplan

The Process of getting her to Colorado won’t be easy, I understand that. But I have a gameplan:

- Make arrangements with work
- Make flight arrangements for myself
- Once I arrive in Louisiana, rent a vehicle comfortable enough for her to ride in for three days
- Find an affordable, but nice hotel for us to stay in along the way
- Setup her room here so she can have a comfortable vacation

This site takes a small percentage from the money we raise, and whatever’s left will be used to make her time here as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

My number one goal in all of this, other than getting her here, is to give anyone who ever wanted to give back to this amazing woman the opportunity to do so. This will be a once in a lifetime experience for her.


Grandma

With all her heavy beliefs, prayers, and devotion, it’s unfortunate that she has yet to see some of God’s greatest creations. We’ll change that on November 4th. 

We all have busy lives, and though we want to show our appreciation to her by doing something, anything—life seems to always get in the way. I understand this all too well, especially after the last few months of planning.

This is our chance to give back to a woman who has truly given all 75 years of her life to Heaven and earth—whether it was through prayer, conversation, action, or her simply worried about you and the life situations you were going through. With your contributions, together, we can show her the time of her life. She deserves this.


Grandpa

Growing up, it was easy to see the two most important things to her: God and Grandpa. Sadly though, these last four years of taking care of Grandpa have kept her from fully focusing on going to church—and now that the love of her life is waiting in a much better place, she is left with a 56 year old scar on her heart.

With me being so far away (1,200 miles to be exact), this saddens me. But it also motivates me, because I can’t wait until November when I can provide her the security she desperately misses.

She’ll be staying with me in Colorado Springs for a month. This will include Thanksgiving, which will be her first holiday without Grandpa in 56 years. I can’t imagine how hard that must be for her. I can only hope that sharing this holiday season with me, something that hasn’t happened for us in a very long time, will help sooth some of the pain.

Paw wasn’t much of a traveling man, but I’m sure he would want her to do this as well. All he ever wanted was for her to be happy.

In Closing

This is, without a doubt, a once in a lifetime experience for Grandma, and I know our friends and family would like to be a part of it.
