Gorgonio Sanchez Jr. Scholarship Fund

The Gorgonio Sanchez Jr. Scholarship was established to honor the life of an amazing man, our Grandfather, who had a passion for education and service. The scholarship is awarded to college-bound seniors from the Compton Unified School District who demonstrate a commitment to continuing their education. Funds for the scholarship are raised solely by donations from family and friends.

We have awarded 15 scholarships to date; and we plan to do this every year in honor of our Grandfather who passed in 2018. Every year we coordinate with the District's College & Career Readiness department to distribute applications and award by the following Spring. 

Gorgonio never graduated high school with his peers, but later in life he went back to school to receive his high school diploma at the age of 43. Education was very important to him and he instilled this into his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After more than thirty years as a blue-collar worker, Gorgonio served as President of the School Board for Compton Unified School District and Trustee at Compton College. He dedicated his retirement years serving his community and giving back to the City of Compton.
