Help us make cycling accessible for all!
GoGet is a family run social enterprise which provides support for people with disabilities. We’re raising money to purchase a Side-by-Side Companion Bike to make the joys of cycling accessible to everyone we support, regardless of ability or disability.
Why do we need it?
With the right bike, anything is possible. Cycling is a fantastic sensory experience and the perfect way to access the great outdoors. A Side-by-Side companion bike offers so much to the people we support, many of whom rely on adapted bikes rather than the standard, two-wheeled bikes we’re all familiar with.
On a Side-by-Side, as the name suggests, the individual sits alongside their support worker, allowing them to enjoy the sensory input of pedalling without having to worry about the tricky business of braking or steering. They are safely clipped into the seat, giving security for people with epilepsy in the event of a seizure. Most importantly, sitting alongside each other turns cycling into a truly social experience, offering the people we support the social engagement which is so important to them.
Currently, in order to access these wonderful bikes, we have to rely on the availability of bike hire shops which, although appreciated, limits the time we can spend on them, reduces the scope and flexibility of our support sessions, and increases the cost to the people we support.
To help the people we support get the most out of their experiences with us, we try to venture off the beaten track to find quiet, low populated areas so that our clients can feel the freedom of speeding down a cycle track. We would love to be able to offer this to everyone we support, not just those who can ride a standard, two wheeled bicycle.
We would be so grateful if you could help us to achieve our goal of purchasing our very own Side-by-Side Companion Bike so that we can make cycling truly accessible for the people we support.
