Help Heather get through breast cancer
Spende geschützt
Meet Heather!

She loves sunshine, roller coasters (especially at Universal Studios), the Outlander series, and fiddle music. She is a stunning dancer, a crafty DIY-er, and a multi-talented artist and photographer. She’s a loving partner, a fun aunt, and gem of a friend. She is frankly the gentlest, most considerate person I know. And she has breast cancer.
Stage three invasive ductal carcinoma, to be specific. Heather first noticed a lump in January 2018, and, mindful of her family history of breast cancer, went to get a mammogram. She was told she had benign cysts and was sent home. As the lumps grew larger and more and more painful, her overall health and energy plummeted. Still, her doctors assured her there was nothing to worry about. By the time she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2019, it had already progressed to stage three and spread to her lymph nodes.
With no time to catch her breath, Heather immediately began a brutal round of chemo, followed by a double mastectomy. She still needs extensive radiation.
This is a difficult time for many with COVID-19 changing schedules, mobility, and even cash flow. And as hard as it is for us, it’s even harder dealing with all these things while having cancer.
Heather was laid off because of coronavirus, as businesses in Blacksburg are struggling with the University closing for the spring semester. Clinical trials that may have accepted Heather for proton therapy have stopped new enrollment because of the virus. And her immunity is compromised and will be even more so during radiation.
You may not know Heather, but we all benefit from having people like her in this world. I don’t have the words to express how deserving heather is of the help she rarely gets and never asks for. She has had a terrible streak of bad luck and I think together we can help to break that. Let’s create a little sunshine for her. I'm asking for donations to help cover the medical expenses of chemo, surgery, and radiation, along with the many prescriptions Heather has needed. Although she has health insurance, it will not cover the proton radiation therapy that her doctors have recommended, despite several appeals. All together, the process of getting a diagnosis and treatment has cost a lot of time, money, and energy.
Every bit helps to chip away at the mountain of medical bills. What’s totally overwhelming for one person can be an easy lift across a community. Cancer sucks enough without the added financial stress. It’s time some of Heather’s good energy and generosity came back to her
