Brittany's College Fund

Donation protected
On behalf of all her friends and neighbors, we encourage your donation to support Brittany Fletcher during her first year at Cal State Chico.

Five years ago, Brittany responded to a Craigslist ad to live in Star's house and help with her boys.  She became part of the family and a part of our special community here in Vallejo.   We all have become Brittany's family.

Brittany does not have blood relatives who can support her education.  No one started a 529 college savings plan for her when she was little.  No one was there to pull out the checkbook on graduation day and say, "this is for your textbooks at college!"  or "this will help with room and board."

No one... except us!   Her friends and neighbors.   Can you contribute?

This week Brittany is moving up to Chico to begin her new life at a 4-year university.   She's excited and nervous.   Let's support her by making her first year a little easier so she can focus on her studies and get her Bachelor's Degree.

A $50 contribution means half a day that Brittany can focus on her studies rather than going to work to support herself.   Every $100 means ten hours that she can spend studying and not working the late shift.   Smaller amounts ($20, $30) help too-- it all adds up fast if we each kick in.

If someone helped you financially when you were going to college by paying the rent or helping pay tuition, please consider "paying it forward" by helping another young person get her education.

And if no one helped you, consider what a remarkable and resilient person Brittany is.  She just graduated in May WITH HONORS from Solano Community College.   She was chosen by a team of professors to be the student speaker at graduation.  She has overcome many challenges to get to this point.  At 15, she entered the foster care system in Solano County, and was emancipated at 18.  While she wanted to go to a full time college, she needed to work a full time job to pay the rent and put food on the table.  Nevertheless, she persisted.   She now has an Associate's Degree and is ready to finish her Bachelor's.  She's still optimistic and committed.

Any size donation is welcome.  Please be generous, if you can.  If you prefer to give cash or check rather than online, make it out to Brittany Fletcher, and please join us at a neighborhood send-off party for her on August 4 (6pm) at Happy and Sally's home.  (RSVP to Star.)   We will have a basket there so we can tally the final amount and present it to Brittany.

In any case, please donate by August so Brittany will have a good idea of her finances and will know how much she has to work this coming year.

Brittany will use all donations she receives toward rent and food her first year.

I don't have to tell you that Brittany will be very grateful for the help and support provided--not just because it will help her finish her studies sooner, but because it will show how many people in Vallejo (and beyond!) care about her and want her to succeed.

Thank you!
