GMAK - Get Maureen a Kidney Fundraiser

Local resident, Maureen Nigro, was diagnosed with kidney failure at the age of forty-nine in 2013. Since her diagnosis, Maureen has been undergoing dialysis three days per week and has suffered many aliments over the past several years including two bouts of cancer (currently in remission), Degenerative Eye Disease (requiring surgeries to help maintain her eyesight but having lost her peripheral vision), a serious infection in her lower abdomen and two bleeding ulcers.

Maureen is a strong, independent woman, but is emotionally, physically, and financially struggling. She is in desperate need of a kidney but unable to afford the immunosuppressive drugs that she would need post-transplant; due to certain Medicare restrictions, she must provide proof of her ability to fund her insurance and medication for 3 years after her transplant which she remains unable to do. She is also ineligible for Social Security benefits until the age of sixty-seven. Maureen continues to experience an overwhelming amount of both medical and financial complications and needs our help.
