Eat n’ Aid – Mugumu Safe House

We, a group of friends from Jax , are leading a fundraising event to support SAFE HOUSE and VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE for GIRLS ESCAPING FGM in MUGUMU, Tanzania.

 “Cutting season” in Tanzania is a time where hundreds of young girls are subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM). They are forced to undergo the horrific procedure by their own families who believe it is an important cultural practice even though it is illegal and can result in death. Their only option is to escape. For decades, there was nowhere for the girls to run to. But now, the girls finally have a place to escape to – The Safe House.

Safe house needs dining hall and kitchen - currently they are using temporary kitchen and girls are eating outside.  Girls need daily personal items, clothes, exercise books, pen, school bags, sewing machine, materials for learning, mattress, bed sheets, school uniforms, school desks, food, medication etc.
