Giving Hope to Iraqis

Dear Friends & Family,
I have always dreamed of helping people in need, but on a larger scale than chucking a $5 bill in a donation bin or buying that extra cupcake at the fundraiser. However, I never imaged that when it did happen, it would be my own undertaking. A few weeks ago, as I sat and tried to plan a Christmas vacation, I had what Oprah would call an “aha” moment. I realized that the time and money I would spend on a typical vacation, buying useless souvenirs and making my son take photos of me for Instagram likes, could be so much better spent helping people in need. It was in that instant I decided that my son Yousif (8 going on 36) and I would travel to Baghdad, Iraq to spend 10 days doing charity work. I saved AED 5,000 dirhams ($1,500 CAD) to put towards three different causes: children in orphanages, IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps, and local hospitals. I soon came up with a name for this initiative: “Amal Mission” in honor of my late mother; it is also Arabic for “hope”. I thought I should ask those around me, family and friends to support this mission and increase the positive impact we could have on these people’s lives. My aim is to raise CAD $10,000 so that each cause receives a significant donation. I want to reassure you all that 100% of the money will go to these three causes. I will be documenting my entire journey so I can share the experience and be fully transparent with everyone. I need all your support to ensure we can give the most help to these poor, unfortunate people. If everyone donates, even a small amount, it can make a huge difference to a person’s life or help a few more families. If nothing else, at least we can give them hope.

Orphanage
- Provide needed supplies for the children wellbeing
- Provide books and toys for the children.
- Provide treats for the children such as chips, cookies and juice
IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps
- Provide warm blankets, heaters, sleeping mats, socks and jackets for the children
- Providing non-perishable items such as rice, tea, flour, sugar, salt etc.
- Provide books and toys for children
LocalHospitals
- Provide financial aid to help families pay their children’s
hospital bills, treatments and purchase much need medication
- Provide books and toys for children.
