A close family friend of mine is facing an impossible decision.

Their newborn filly was just brought into the world, but instead of a long, healthy life ahead of her, she’s at risk of being euthanized. She was born with congenital cataracts, leaving her vision severely impaired. Right now, she can only see partially and without treatment, her condition will only worsen.

Because of this, she’s been labeled a “money pit.” Without intervention, she will not be given the chance to grow up at all.

But there is hope.

We found a veterinary hospital that can perform a specialized surgery, similar to cataract correction in humans, that can restore her vision. In young horses, this procedure has about an 87% success rate, giving her a real chance at a full, healthy life.

The problem is timing.

This surgery must happen while she is still very young. If we wait too long, her chances of recovery drop significantly.
