Hope for Lou: Life-Changing Surgery Needed
Meet Lou, a sweet and gentle young (probably 1 year old) dog we found huddled on the side of the road in Detroit on April 26. A nearby resident told us he had been there since the previous afternoon—alone, scared, and clearly in pain. From the moment we approached him, Lou’s kind and trusting nature was obvious, but so was the fact that something was wrong.
He struggled to walk, often falling to the side or collapsing forward onto his knees. His back paws were curling under, forcing him to walk on the tops of them. We couldn’t leave him like that.
We brought Lou to our vet, Allpets in Pickerington, where Dr. Garzon performed a thorough exam and x-rays. The diagnosis: a spinal fracture in the T13-L1 area. Surgery was strongly recommended—but it’s a highly specialized procedure that only a few surgical centers perform.
Our quote from MedVet came in between $10,000 and $12,000, which we simply couldn’t afford. Thankfully, Dr. Garzon used her connections to help us get in touch with Animal Surgical Center of Michigan (ASCM), who are willing to work with us on the cost. Even with their generous support, it’s still a significant expense.
Lou is scheduled to be admitted to ASCM on Monday morning. He will spend at least one night there post-surgery.
ASCM will accept direct donations starting on Monday through Tuesday morning while he’s in their care. Please call the phone number in one of the photos and mention Lou and his rescuer Kayli Little.
Lou has been through so much already, but he hasn’t lost his spirit. With your help, we can give him the second chance he deserves—to walk, to run, and to enjoy the safe and loving life he should have had all along.
Every donation, share, or kind word helps. Thank you so much for your support.
