About Me
I am working as an intern at Kar Geno- Center of Hope- a community-based organization based in Kenya. I am a university student at McGill University, Canada majoring in International Development Studies. I have been working with Kar Geno since January 2019, mostly in fundraising and grant writing, and since three days ago, I am working in the office in Kisumu, Kenya.

About This Fundraiser
Kar Geno strives to empower poor HIV positive mothers by providing them with opportunities to obtain skills, get employed and earn income to support their children.

Kar Geno operates in a region called Asembo, where HIV prevalence rate is more than 20% for women- 1 in 5 women-, one of the highest prevalence rate in the country.

As a woman get diagnosed with HIV, she is often times isolated by the community, abandoned by the family and friends and lose a job due to a negative stigma associated to HIV/AIDS epidemics.

Therefore it is very important that we provide them with tailoring skills and hire them as tailors, since this would give skills, jobs and purposes for life again to the impoverished HIV positive mothers in desperate condition.

This month, we are planning to conduct an exhibition event about the achievement of these HIV positive mothers as tailors at Kar Geno in order to sensitize the community about the misleading HIV stigma, and also to recruit new women who are also affected by HIV/AIDS and in a difficult situation. Then have to feed their children, continue their treatment for HIV, and all of this would not be easy without help.

We are looking in desperate need for funds in order to realize the event in coming weeks. we believe that this event will help us destroy the negative stigma associated to HIV/AIDs that still exist in the community, and demonstrate to the community that these women are also resilient, active and independent actors in the community. in the end, our goal is to empower the most vulnerable population in the community.

this event would be possible with around 1000$ of fund, and we appreciate help of any amount or sharing and spreading of this fundraiser.

If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you very much!
