Girls in state care - hear their experiences
STORIES THAT NEED TO BE HEARD
We have heard boys stories about being in state care - but who is listening to the girls?
Help me create a platform for them to share their experiences, and raise awareness for organisations that are helping to support these girls and instigate change.
'Complex factors lead to women and girls’ entering and returning to prison. Criminalisation is usually the outcome of repeated and intergenerational experiences of violence, poverty, homelessness, child removal and unemployment, resulting in complex health issues and substance use. First Nations women and girls are massively over-represented in prison due to the racism at the foundation of systems of social control.' (Sisters Inside Website)

ISSUE IN THE MEDIA
Four Corners "Australia's Shame" re boys in the system.

Amnesty International has done a study on the current situation and labelled it 'Australia's National Disgrace' among other stats in their article they point out,
“It’s particularly alarming that of those in detention, 63% were unsentenced,”

We all know the power of social media and mainstream media can affect change. We need to bring more awareness to this issue now, so we as a nation can put pressure on the government to change laws that need to change to protect our kids.
Sisters Inside have a solid history of effecting legal change with movements like #freeher - where they raised over $1,000,000.000 to pay for First Nations women's fines that would avoid them being imprisoned.
