I'm Jamila, founder of Girl Free the Fro.
@GirlFreetheFro is a page on Instagram which aims to encourage, educate and inspire young girls and women to wear their natural Afro hair confidently. The page includes key tips and information on how to look after natural hair and keep it healthy.
I want to support young girls by providing education and introducing them to the right products for them to care for their natural hair.
Due to the price of Black hair products, young girls may instead use cheaper products which could damage their hair, causing matting and breakage.
My first initiative is to create packs of key Afro hair products, consisting of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in-conditioner and oil to send to young girls in schools and youth centres in the UK. The funds we raise will ensure that I am able to source these high-quality products to go alongside those kindly provided by friends and brands I am working with.
There are many young Black girls who would benefit from this support, just to get the basic products for their Afro hair. This knowledge of how to care for Afro hair was something I lacked when I was growing up, which is my mission is to provide others with the products and guidance necessary to have a good relationship with their hair.
Your support will help to provide some of the products needed for the hair packs to provide to those that need it. The hair packs will consist of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in-conditioner and oil.
