Gianna's Medical Service Trip

Donation protected

Upon starting my bachelor's program, an opportunity was presented to me; my school offers a trip each year to provide medical care to an underprivileged area. This year, they are doing the trip to Chacraseca, Nicaragua. According to JustHope.org's program, this is what we will be doing, and some information about the population we will be caring for...
"What Will We Do?

Our primary activity will be providing medical and community health services to the residents of Chacraseca and surrounding communities. We will partner with Nicaraguan doctors and nurses to provide access to this underserved population, while also learning about a different culture and health care system! Chacraseca is an extremely impoverished area of Nicaragua with 2 physicians and 1 dentist for 8000 people. Our team will consist of doctors, nurses, community health providers, and medical students. There will also be roles for participants from other fields – this trip is not limited to medical personnel.

During the daily clinics, there will be intensive training of students in the art of medicine - without the use of lab, x-rays, and other technology. Students will be encouraged to use their mind and hands to evaluate and treat patients. In addition, there will be opportunities to learn about a different cultural and global issues."

I am so excited to both be able to use my nursing skills and help people who normally wouldn't receive care, in addition to learning new skills in the process. I know providing medical care in this setting will open my eyes to how much communities need healthcare and how beneficial trips like this is.

My new job has been gracious enough to offer me time off so I can go on this trip and reach this community. I will be receiving 2 classes worth of credits for this trip, which my work will also be paying for, but the rest of the cost of the trip is up to me. All the pieces are falling into place from all the surrounding factors, the last bit is funding! The trip itself costs $1,000.00, and that does not include airfare and meals on my own. I will be responsible for putting myself up at a hotel the night before the program starts, and food. For that reason, I will be aiming to reach $2,500.00.  Any extra money raised will go back to the program to provide medical supplies for the community.

Please think, and pray about financially supporting me for this amazing outreach opportunity! Without your help, I don't think I can make this trip happen and provide medical care to a community that doesn't have it. Every little bit counts, and prayers are needed as well!
