Getting care for my mom

On Friday my mom was brought to the emergency room in California after a forced-entry wellness check. At intake she was 87 lbs, dehydrated and had a UTI. She’s medically stable but appears to have dementia on top of her life-long mental health issues. I have lost faith in her brother’s judgment and ability to care for her. He’s had years to figure out how to manage her care. She likely would have died in her home this month if neighbors hadn’t got involved and advocated for her. I’m raising money so I can petition for a conservatorship and take over her care. I believe filing fees will be somewhere between $500-1000. The first couple of hours with the elder law attorneys is $900. My costs to stay in the area have been about $110 a night.
