Half of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and are one financial emergency away from homelessness. Six months ago, Treasie and her family lost their home when an unscrupulous roommate pocketed the rent check and didn't pay the landlord. That's all it takes to lose your home, the roof over your head, your stability, your life. Since that time they have bounced from couches to cars to parks to their current location: a weekly rate motel.
Treasie, a pregnant mother of three children, 9, 10 and 14, has done all the right things-filled out the forms, waited in line, secured all the necessary paperwork but still she waits. All she wants is a stable home for her and her kids so that she can go back to work, and they can focus on school. The problem is that bureaucracy and red tape is slowing the process. They have already been in the motel for over a month and that costs $450/week.
We'd like to support Treasie and her children by raising at least $6,000. That will keep them in the motel for thirteen weeks. This will also allow her to save some of her money for moving expenses when a place finally comes available. It will also keep them secure as our system continues to slowly move forward to help them. If we could raise even more money, we might be able to get them into an apartment.
It is hard, if not impossible, to come from behind. A small contribution from many people will help get this family closer to having a roof over their heads, to having stability, to having a HOME. Please help us bring them home.
