George Gregory Malik

Hi, my name is Kayla Edwards, I am the daughter of George Malik. It is with the saddest heart that I have to be writing this. My dad George Malik passed away on January 17, 2024 after a difficult road of trying to recover from a back surgery back in November.

He had a infection after surgery and was in ICU for a few days but was sent to rehab facility and then home before he was well and before the infection was healed. He had no mobility and never recovered the ability to walk on his own after the surgery and infection set in. He had fallen several times and was taken to the hospital only to be sent home again. After numerous attempts of trying to get him back in to care with no luck, and doing everything we could do as a family to help him at home, George continued to decline and was still unable to walk or carry himself from room to room without falling. His infection was not getting better. We called an ambulance again after his last fall and insisted he be taken to the hospital to be evaluated. This started his long journey and hospital tour of Corpus as I like to call it. He was moved from Doctors Regional over to Spohn Shoreline and from there he was moved Spohn South, where he was admitted to ICU and that's where he would stay. Through out all of this he had to be given several units of blood and platelets. He also had to have a three separate clean out procedures on his infected incision site and wound. He had to have several more units of blood, platelets and plasma as well as numerous other scans, tests and labs on top of numerous iv antibiotics in attempts to tackle the multitude of infections that were attacking his system; one of them being one of the rarest in the US with only around 100 previously reported cases according to his doctors and nurses. His several forms of infection had gotten much worse and as stubborn as he was he just couldn't keep fighting, his body was fighting against him. His organs couldn't handle anymore and my dad took his last breath on January 17, 2024. That was one of the saddest and hardest days of my life so far.

He was always so kind and generous with what ever he did have to offer. He had friends all over the area and I've never known anyone to have anything bad to say about him other than he was slow to get places and he may be late to events, but he would get there... just in George time. One thing was for sure though, he would be there no matter what and no matter when you needed him you just had to be patient and give him 30 minutes to get from one side of Annaville to the other. He held his sense humor and jokes through the end, in his moments of clarity. I kept telling the nurses "you'll know when you have seen him at his normal and witty self". And sure enough he would have those moments and his personality would show through and you could see the recognition of them getting to see the real George.

He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to so many. He will be forever missed and remembered as the big teddy bear soul he was.

Being that my dad didn't have much in ways of finances and had no plans in place for this kind of thing to happen, we have been left with hefty expenses with organizing his end of life arrangements, plans and expenses. If you would like to donate to help with the high costs of these things the family would very much appreciate anything you feel comfortable with. He is being cremated, with services to follow in the coming weeks as we get things together. His ashes will be buried with other family members in Robstown after services are held.
