Jennifer's Breast Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Jennifer (Brackett) Barnum is wife to Jack, and Mom to 19 year old Cuyler and 6 year old Carter. Jennifer had a routine mammogram on Feb 1, 2020. She was called back in for a 2nd mammogram on Feb 15, and was told that cancer was suspected. It was confirmed on Feb 26, after a needle biopsy was performed the day before. As you can imagine, that was one of the worst days of Jen's life! On March 2nd, she had her first MRI, and another MRI/Biopsy on March 25, 2020, at which time they were able to confirm that she had three tumors in her right breast. Shortly after, she met with her Oncologist and her plastic surgeon to start her road to recovery. She had her right breast removed on May 6th, because a lumpectomy was not an option, due to there being three tumors in her breast. They placed an expander where the right breast was, so they would be able to make room for a future implant, but unfortunately, the expander turned over, and was unable to be filled. This has caused Jennifer quite a bit of pain. Jennifer was furloughed from her job from April to August, because of the pandemic, as well as her cancer treatments. On June 25th she had a mediport inserted for her Chemotherapy and blood work. On July 8 Jen started chemotherapy, and that lasted through September 9. In between, Jennifer returned to work on Aug 10. She started her 1st of 30 radiation treatments on Oct 6. Unfortunately, Jennifer had a bad skin reaction to the radiation, and her Oncologist took her back off work. Thankfully she was finally able to return to work on December 7, and her last radiation treatment was on December 8!! BUT, Jennifer still has a long road to recovery, including breast reconstruction surgery, which will not be easy due to her expander flipping over.
I have known Jen for 43 years. I, along with one of her best friends, Jeanne, am trying to help find a way to help ease some of the burden of her monthly bills, expenses that she incurred while traveling daily for her treatments, and her medical bills. We know times are tough for everyone right now, but anything will help! Let's try to ease a little bit of the burden from this wonderful woman, and her family❤
