On July 24th the Seargeant's: Coner, Katy, and Cory celebrated the birth of a new family member: Miss Daphne Jo! Heading into the birth they knew Daphne had tested positive for the T21 mutation, Down's Syndrome, and that she also had a heart defect requiring surgery soon after birth. Sweet Daphne, full of spunk, transitioned well after birth and spent her first 8 days of life in the NICU awaiting surgery. After 4 hours of surgery the operation was successful.
Now Daphne was on the road to recovery and after spending 21 days in the hospital, Daphne was FINALLY headed home!
The family's excitement quickly turned as Daphne's breathing pattern changed 2 days later. Her respirations became labored and Vicia, Daphne's grandmother and experienced NICU nurse, alerted Coner and Katy that this was serious. They rushed her to the hospital where she soon spiked a fever and was diagnosed with a wound infection and sepsis. She will likely receive inpatient antibiotic therapy for several weeks in addition to more surgeries. This complication was unexpected and has occurred just as Coner will return to work. Katy essentially lives in the hospital at Daphne's bedside showering her with mother's love. There are many unforeseen expenses: childcare for Cory, medical bills, transportation, and loss of income. Please consider donating to the Seargeant's as they move forward in these uncertain times.
