Gathering of Western Tribes of Nicaragua 2019

Piyalli nohuampoyohuan
Huan nochi nomecayomeh!

We are raising funds for the Gathering of Western Tribes of Nicaragua September 13th-15th! As the date approaches we are still in need of a bit more funds looking towards the beauty that is community and family to help us achieve our goal!

This event is a 3 day gathering bringing together leaders, curanderas, and youth representatives of various indigenous communities. Some of the lineages represented will be Chorotega, Nahua, Matagalpa as well as a family of Miskito curanderos.

With the funds raised we will be covering the costs of travel for the elders & healers from their villages to our community in Matagalpa, as well as provide them with 3 meals daily, body work & traditional medicine.

The majority of our country’s population is still indigenous yet we suffer greatly from colonial amnesia & have shame around our roots. So this work is of the absolute importance to bring back accessibility & love to our ancestral medicine, language, dance & way of life.

Our 2 major intentions for this gathering are ....

1. To weave together a clear path of communication between our tribes so that when Curanderas come from the Amazon or Nahuatl teachers come from Mexico they can stop in multiple communities & spread the medicine & knowledge in a efficient way!

2. The Peace & Dignity Journeys Nicaragua 2020, which is a intercontinental run that takes place every 4 years uniting indigenous communities from Alaska to Tierra de Fuego. It has played a major role in connecting our families & tribes here in Western Nica so it is of the highest priority for us to plan for next years run!

Any donations we make past the requested $1,950 will go towards field trips for our Matagalpan Youth Crew visit sacred sites & put down prayers of tobacco & song.
