Alex’s Open Book

York Friends & Family.  Written by brother Garret.   NOT 1 MORE!!!    Tuesday 11/20 We lost my younger Brother ALEX LAUER in a sudden & unexpected way.  A battle so tough we can only read about  & understand from his everyday journals he left behind to teach & help others about his fight with this horrible addiction.  As strong of a Lauer & good person he was he couldn’t do this alone in the end.  Alex was tough, very smart, funny, loving & so strong of a character with a family he knew loved him through thick and thin.  It still took him away from us suddenly.  He was trying to manage this himself & lost because of its power.  His journal messages explain in full detail the trials & how he wanted to help people know more about this & his difficult journey.  He being stubborn & strong thought he could win against it himself.  He passed with no pain & is free now.  His message & example left behind is for us to help other families & addicts get help.  This was not suicide or an overdose.  This was a lethal lacing imbedded in what he thought was a normal dose of his regular routine.   Regardless the addiction was not a good one.  What he’d want people to know is at anytime this disease can take you unexpectedly and don’t think you can do this alone as a family or direct addict yourself, so get real professional help before its to late.  Alex would never leave his family or daughters behind but the addiction did in this case.  I am of course devastated yet proud of my brother for being an open book with such a tough personal topic to help others and that’s who he really is.  His life will represent help, knowledge and open doors of communication about this problem and will hopefully save many lives, families and children from heartache.  I am honored to call him my brother & to see that through all this personal pain his concern was to teach others one day & help with the sacrifice of his story & true life story of such a hard journey through the real problem.   We had a great childhood, many memories, inside jokes, brother stories and always departed from each other with an I Love you and a hug.   Alex was a gentle giant with a heart of gold & always ment well.   I didn’t release this info right away for my class reunion was taking place this week and I know my brother wanted to help with it & would not want to make any vibe sad because of him, so I waited & stayed strong not to mention it till now.   As a family we actually don’t want to ask for any help but we need it for once we are taking a knee and letting it be known we need help.   Alex did not have anything saved or insurance for this and it’s unexpectedness leaves us in a place where we do need help for funeral cost but most importantly for his two Daughters. Extra Funds raised will go towards a bank account set up for things they may need growing up, schooling, clothes, living expenses, and all the fun child Raising stuff we are now going to have to think about for thier dads part of contributing.   As a family we would like to extremely thank the Foote Family & Steve Foote for starting a go Fundme page to help us in this tough time.   We are grateful to everyone that is donating.   Here is the page Steve arranged for donations.  THANK YOU ALL in advance.   I LOVE YOU ALEX & PLEASE NOT 1 MORE!!!   Please Share this amazing article in York Dispatch of his story.
