Bobby’s Garden

Beautiful Bobby, as he is known to his family, is a bubbly, bright 6-year-old who has autism and for those that know him is never seen without several toothbrushes in his hands.

He loves to be outside, never wants to come in, playing with his bubbles, kicking a ball or using up some of his energy jumping on a trampoline or just resting in the peace and quiet.

Unfortunately, he can do none of these things in his own garden because of its condition, after getting some estimates for a safe environment for him to play in, bad news, the garden is unsafe and his parents were advised not to let him in it, especially on his own. The border walls all need to be demolished and replaced as they are in danger of falling down, all the small walls needs to be demolished and all the paving needs to be removed and the garden leveled and a surface laid that will allow Bobby to play safely, in short, we need to remove everything and rebuild from scratch.  It’s a mammoth task. 

When they were refused the Grant because their earnings where just over the threshold the extended family got together and decided that they would all pull together both financially and with the help of volunteers to provide a garden for Bobby. When the estimates came in the family didn’t realise the extent and cost of the work needed to make the garden safe let alone making it into a sensory garden for Bobby.

We have all had a bad time over the past 18 months but especially for Bobby’s parents who have been coping with the withdrawal of most of the services that would give them a break, especially his dad who has been trying to work from home and look after bobby the best he can. He hasn’t been able to let him outside which means he spends all day indoors.

Having a sensory garden for Bobby would make such a huge difference to all the family. For bobby a bit of independence and freedom a place where he can run off his abundant energy and be safe and for his parents a bit of respite from the constant demands that they face each day.

Bobby’s parents were not involved in the family’s decision to try to raise money. 

Any donation, big or small would be so very much appreciated to give Bobby the garden that would make such a difference to his life.
