Jovana Stokic Fundraiser

Several weeks ago, our dear friend and colleague, Jovana Stokic, was attacked while entering the Morgan Street L subway station in Brooklyn. She was knocked unconscious at the top of the staircase, and fell down them, breaking out many teeth and shattering her left elbow. She awoke in the arms of two kind women trying to help her and was rushed to the hospital. Thankfully she sustained no brain damage. She has had emergency surgery including a full replacement of her left elbow and major dental work that is ongoing. Jovana has maintained a positive attitude, is a tough cookie and still has her sense of humor, saying to me that she is now "a bionic woman." Recovery will be ongoing for months, including physical therapy, dental implants and surgery to repair her lip.  A second elbow surgery is also looming.

Jovana is very resilient and is working hard to get back to her self, taking care of herself and resuming life as best she can. All that said, there are bills surrounding this horrific experience that she is now forced to worry about. For example, her insurance will not cover the very costly dental implants she needs. She has also had to take cabs to and from many many medical appointments and none of these ancillary costs are covered in any way. It's absurd to me that as a true victim of a senseless act, that now as she deals with pain and recovery, that she is also in such a financial position. To put it frankly, without help, she will not be able to afford dental implants.

Jovana is so well loved and so generous of spirit that  her friends and colleagues all want to help and that is exactly why we are organising a medical fundraiser.  You can donate directly or purchase listed artwork that a number of wonderful artists have donated for the cause.

We know that this is shocking news and may take a moment to absorb, but again, rest assured that Jovana is taking all the steps she needs to take, within her power, to recover. She is thankful for the outpouring of love and support she has received. It has meant so much and strengthened her resolve. She sends love to you all.

Below are some of the works donated by artists in support of the fundraiser. These serve as incentives and they can be acquired through different reward levels listed at the bottom of the page. These works are unique and limited.
